SIOUX CITY -- Robert L. Hagar, 86, of Sioux City, formerly of Humboldt, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5240 and the American Legion Adams Post 119. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.

Robert Lafayette Hagar, the son of Benjamin and Laura (Van Antwerp) Hagar, was born Sept. 30, 1922, in Harvard, Ill. The family lived in the Chicago and Fond Du Lac areas until moving to Eagle Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946, during World War II. He worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad until 1950, then he worked for Corn Belt Power Co-op in Humboldt.

He was united in marriage to Vera Mae Cormaney on Sept. 11, 1951 in Kamrar, Iowa. He retired as chief engineer of the Humboldt generating plant on Dec. 31, 1987.

Survivors include his children, Lynn (Linda) Hagar of Plainfield, Ill., and Laura (Tim) Neustrom of Sioux City; grandchildren, Andrea and Allison Hagar and Traci and Robert Neustrom; a brother, Benjamin Hagar of Milwaukee, Wis.; and sisters, Charlotte Rockow of Belmond, Iowa, and Geraldine Touchette of Milwaukee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vera; a sister-in-law, Doris Hagar; and brothers-in-law, Robert Touchette and Irvin Rockow.
