SIOUX CITY -- Mary C. "Connie" Donohue, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at St. Mary Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Condolences may be sent online to www.millerfh.com.

Connie was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Sioux City, the daughter of John M. and Rhea Margaret (Fitzgibbon) Greer. She graduated from Central High School in 1942 and attended the University of Iowa, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Returning to Sioux City, she worked at T.S. Martin's Department Store in the photography department. She also worked as a secretary during World War II at Sioux Tools.

On June 26, 1948, she married Philip A. Donohue at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City and moved to Sioux Falls.

She was a member of St. Mary Church and the Altar Society. She volunteered at McKennan Hospital. Throughout the years, she was an outstanding natural athlete. She was a city tennis champion in high school. Later while raising her family in Sioux Falls, she won the city golf title and the women's golf championship at Minnehaha Country Club. She was an avid bridge and Mah Jongg player. She enjoyed board games and crossword puzzles. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and greatly enjoyed attending the activities of her children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Phil; eight children, Dan (Laurie), Tom, Margaret, Mike (Joyce) and Tim (Christin), all of Sioux Falls, Mary (Tim) Quinn of North Oaks, Minn., Patti (Steve) White of Dallas, Texas, and Ann (David) Greenwood of Crystal Falls, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Greer of Longboat Key, Fla.; and a sister, Miriam "Mitzi" Kuta of Glen Ellyn, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susan; a stillborn son, John; and her brothers, John, Robert, Joe and Tom.

Memorials may be directed to the Susan G. Donohue Memorial Fund at the Sioux Falls Catholic School Foundation or Avera Foundation for the benefit of Dougherty Hospice House or Walsh Family Village.
