HINTON, Iowa -- Bernice A. Julch, 91, of Sioux City, formerly of Hinton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hinton-Melbourne United Methodist Church in Hinton, with the Rev. Peg Ellingson officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Bernice was born June 6, 1917, in Otho, Iowa, the daughter of Anthon and Emma (Gembler) Volkmer. She grew up in the Otho area, then moved to Sioux City.

She worked for Dr. Harrington before her marriage to Everett Julch on May 7, 1941, in Sioux City. Everett passed away April 24, 1991, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Hinton area for many years.

She was a very active member of the Hinton-Melbourne Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and had been a 4-H leader. She also was a member of T.O.P.S. and enjoyed doing crafts.

Survivors include three children, Orvis Julch and his wife, Charley, of the Hinton area, Marian Hoyer of Sturgis, Mich., and Phillip Julch of Hinton; four sisters, Grace and her husband, Ervin Kotalik, of Yankton, S.D., and Hazel Lentsch, Darlene McCurdy and Lorraine Yates, all of Fort Dodge, Iowa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; a sister; and six brothers-in-law.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Julch, Steve Sachau, Don Harder, Jeremy Gump, Russel and Dennis Schoenherr.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Hinton-Melbourne United Methodist Church.
