SERGEANT BLUFF -- Margaret R. Gifford, 82, of Sergeant Bluff died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Per her wishes, the body was cremated. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Martha Anderson of Trimble United Methodist Church officiating, at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Margaret R. "Marge" Gifford was born May 3, 1926, in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Etta and Claus Behrends. She graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1945. She spent her earlier years in Waterloo, Iowa, and later moved to Sioux City. She worked for Boulevard Foods and retired after 23 years.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, ceramics, cooking and just being outdoors. She loved nature and the wildlife. She always loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Gifford Sr.; three children, Bill Jr. and JJ Gifford of Sioux City, Melind Ihlendfeldt of Mesa, Ariz., and Mike and Joan Behrends of Paullina, Iowa; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Warren Behrends of Traer, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Grace Bleeker; and two brothers, Marlin and Claus Behrends.

All memorials will be donated to St. Jude's Hospital at the family's request.
