SIOUX CITY -- Thomas C. "Tom" Murphy, 81, formerly of Sioux City died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, surrounded by his family, at the Henry County Health and Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville, Ala.

Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Ala.

Born Nov. 22, 1927, in Sioux City, Tom graduated from Central High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. His education included Morningside College and the University of Iowa. He made his living as a contractor.

A loving and thoughtful husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and uncle, he is survived by his wife, Lorraine; five children, Michael, Patty, Kathleen, Dan and Tim; two stepchildren; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Bess Murphy; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends in the Sioux City area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.E. and Vera Murphy; a brother; a sister; an infant daughter; and a stepson.
