SIOUX CITY -- Janet Lee Matt, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 at a local hospital with her family by her side.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Waterbury Funeral Services.

Janet was born Feb. 15, 1947 in Sioux City to Donald and Jeanette (Ferguson) Cotton. She attended Everett, Irving, Hopkins and West Junior High schools. She obtained her GED at Central High School in 1973. After completing 2,100 hours at Stewart's School of Hairstyling, she decided to go to Sioux City Barber College, where she obtained her barber's license in 1979. She was one of the barber instructors for several years.

Janet worked in several barber shops over the years -- Redman's Barber Shop in Sioux City and Central Barber Shop in Estherville, Iowa, from 1991 to 1994. She owned and operated Clipper Barber Shop in Ringstead, Iowa for several years. She also worked part-time for Leeds Barber Shop in Sioux City.

She moved back to Sioux City in the late 1990s to help her father manage his home. Janet was a wonderful cook and always made a huge batch of whatever she was making. (Compliments of her father). Janet was a very talented and creative lady. Her family has lots of her works throughout their homes.

Janet loved to go to the Argosy Riverboat with her Aunt Anita. They shared many good times and dinners there. She loved to play bingo and would play as many as 12-15 cards at one time.

Janet will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Janet is survived by an aunt, Chaplain Patricia L. Mersch of Grand Forks, N.D.; two brothers, Ronald (Rhonda) Cotton of Canfield, Ohio and Stanley (DeAnn) Cotton of Sioux City; a sister, Saundra Frahm of Sioux City; five nieces Robbin (Mick) Harreson, Jodie (Steven) Stuhrenberg, Janet (Randy) Kellogg, Renee (Mike Cason) Geesaman and Rachel Cotton; a nephew, Ryan (Allison) Cotton; several great nieces and nephews; and one great-great-nephew.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Matt; her parents, Donald and Jeanette Cotton; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Anne (Davis) Ferguson; paternal grandparents, Ethel and Louis Cotton; a niece, Stacy Graim; and a great-niece, Alexsaundra Wingett, all of Sioux City.
