Michael Charles Topf Jr., 49, of Sioux City died Sunday, July 2, 2006, in Sioux City after a courageous battle with a long-term illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel G. Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Michael was born to Michael Charles and Joyceleen Elizabeth (Kohls) Topf, in St. Louis, Mo., on March 15, 1957. The family moved to Sioux City shortly after that. He attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1975. He graduated from Universal Heating and Air Conditioning School in Omaha.

He married Michelle Durant on Jan. 12, 1980, in Omaha. To this union, two children were born, Jennifer and Tiffany. He returned to Sioux City after his education to work for the Hilton Hotel in downtown Sioux City as the chief engineer for 19 years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center - Sioux City up until the time of his death.

Survivors include his parents, Michael and Joyceleen Topf Sr. of Sioux City; two daughters, Jennifer Topf of Tempe, Ariz., and Tiffany Topf of Berkeley, Calif.; a grandson, Ashtyn Benadict Pazzi of Berkeley, Calif.; four brothers, Mark Topf of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mathew Topf and his wife, Kim of Sioux City, Martin Topf of Sioux City and Chris Topf of Sioux City; two sisters, Michelle and her husband, Joe Camacho of Niceville, Fla., and Lisa Topf of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Steve and Elizabeth Kohls; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Catherine Topf; two uncles; and two aunts.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at both Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City and St. Luke's Regional Medical Center for all the help they provided for Michael.
