Arnold A. Baron, 84, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, November 24, 1997, in Albuquerque.

Memorial services will be at noon Friday, December 5, at Congregation Albert in Albuquerque with Rabbi Joseph Black and Cantor Jaqueline Marx officiating.

Mr. Baron was born November 23, 1913 in Sioux City, the son of Louis and Dora (Ballin) Baron. He was raised in Plankenton, South Dakota and Sioux City, where he attended Central High School and Morningside College. He received his B.A. and LLD from the University of Minnesota. He returned to Sioux City, where he practiced law.

He married Sylvia Friedman in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Senior Lieutenant during World War II. He managed Adel’s in Rapid City, South Dakota. In 1848, he moved to Billings, Montana, where he founded Baron’s and became a certified gemologist. He also founded Arnold Baron, Inc., which he moved to Los Angeles, California in 1976. He retired in 1985, and the couple moved to Albuquerque in 1988.

He was a member of Kappa Chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu and the AGS, where he served on their board of directors and board of trustees.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Jaclyn and Judith, a son-in-law, Jeff Schmitt; a granddaughter, Katherine, a sister, Dena Wigodsky of Phoenix, Arizona; a brother-in-law and his wife, Will and Barbara Friedman of Dallas, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial may be directed to People Living Through Cancer in Albuquerque.
