Bertha Marie Carlson, 78, of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, at Oakland, Neb., after an extended illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Trimble United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephanie Raphael-Nakos officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 9 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Carlson was born May 5, 1918, in Platte, S.D., the daughter of Frank and Louise (Svenosen) Janson. She was a longtime Sioux City resident. On July 10, 1934, she married Franklin Harold Carlson in Cherokee, Iowa. He died Sept. 30, 1991, in Sioux City. Mrs. Carlson was a member of Trimble United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Donna and Paul Lloyd of Westfield, Iowa, Bev and Stan Hind of Sioux City, and Terri and Dennis Seible of Oakland, Neb.; a son-in-law, Dean Ruser of Holstein, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Herman and Carrie Janson of Grass Valley, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shirley Ruser; a grandson,, Randy Ruser; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Pat and Mike Lloyd, Dan Walsted, Rusty Frigge, Bruce Ruser and Aaron Seible.
