Brothers of Sioux City Doctors Dies
Daniel McLaughlin Had Been an Invalid for Several Years

Daniel McLaughlin, North Dakota banker and ranch owner and brother of two prominent Sioux City physicians, died at a hospital here Friday after an illness of more than four years.

Although a partial invalid, Mr. McLaughlin’s condition was not considered serious until he was stricken with an attack of combined sclerosis of the spinal column at his home at Cando, North Dakota about two weeks ago. He was taken to the hospital here, where he had previously been a patient a year before, suffering from pernicious anemia.

Born at Monamills, Canada, December 31, 1861, Mr. McLaughlin died on the day following his 65th birthday anniversary. He grew to young manhood at Monamills and for several years engaged in the grain business with his father. Later he was affiliated with export grain firms at Duluth, Minnesota.

In 1890 Mr. McLaughlin, with the small amount of savings from his work, moved to North Dakota, settling at Cando and entered the farm land and banking business. He was a pioneer in the development of purebred live stock breeding in the state, being second only to James Hill, the railroad financier, in obtaining the first shipments of purebred cattle, horses, hogs and sheep to stock farms of the state. By the time of his death, Mr. McLaughlin has increased his land and banking holdings considerably and was one of the prominent business men of the state owning in all about 25,000 acres of land, as well as being president of the Cando National Bank and director in four other banking firms.

The deceased is survived by one son, Daniel, Jr., of Cando; four brothers, Dr. P.B. McLaughlin and Dr. A. J. McLaughlin, of Sioux City; M.B. McLaughlin and Albert J. McLaughlin of Austin, Minnesota and a sister, Miss Elizabeth McLaughlin of Austin.

Funeral service will be conducted at 9 o’clock this morning at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.

The body will be temporarily placed in Graceland Cemetery. Perasso Bros undertaking establishment has charge of funeral arrangements.
