Death Claims Bullet Victim
Police Seek Person Who Fired Shot That Killed Laborer

A bullet wound in his head proved fatal Sunday to Nick Flores, a labor, who was wounded early New Year’s morning and died in a Sioux City hospital without regaining consciousness.

Police declared that they believed that Flores, who had been at a New Year’s dance near the scene of the shooting, engaged in a drunken argument which ended in the fatal shooting. As yet, officials have not been able to find any clews as to the identity of the person or persons who were a party to the quarrel.

Nick Hassen, 321 South Howard Street and Thomas Tsoutsoures, 1313 Leech Street, who picked up the unconscious man when they discovered him lying in the street, were questioned by officials but could give no assistance in unraveling the mystery surrounding the shooting. Both men declared that they saw no one near when they discovered the body.

The deceased was 23 years old and lived in South Sioux City with his mother, Mrs. Conception Flores, and a brother, Augustianna. He also is survived by a brother, Dennis Flores of Los Angeles, California.

Murder Charge To Be Placed
Detectives Say They Have Evidence Against Dakroob

A charge of first degree murder will be filed today against Abraham Hassan Dakroob, alias Nick Hassen, 321 South Howard Street, who is being held in the city jail in connection with the murder of Nick Flores, a laborer on New Year’s morning, Chief of Detectives Gus Danielson announced.

Although Dakroob did not confess to the shooting when questioned by detectives, enough circumstantial evidence has been obtained to justify placing the charge, Chief Danielson said.

A gun which recently had been fired, the ownership of which Dakroob did not deny, has been found by detectives. A bullet found in Flores head by Coroner J.H. Robbins in a post mortem examination is of the same caliber as the gun, a .32 caliber automatic.

The quarrel between Flores and Dakroob is said to have arisen as a result of alleged atentions paid to Mrs. Dakroob by Flores. Witnesses to the shooting, who were standing across the street at the time, told police that there was a heated argument before the shooting.

The two men were standing within a few feet of each other when the shooting occurred, Chief Danielson said. Dakroob’s story when questioned by detectives was disconnected, they said, although he clung to one story all the time.

Flores died Sunday night at a Sioux City hospital without regaining consciousness. The body is at Westcott’s undertaking parlors pending funeral arrangements.
