6 March 1939The father of two firemen, Jorgen G. Schanke, 73, died Sunday afternoon in his home, 208, South Paxton, several hours after having suffered a heart attack. His son Albert G. is stationed at fire station 3 and Arnold is stationed at headquarters, Sixth and Water.
Perasso Brothers’ Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Schanke was born May 27, 1865, in Oslo, Norway. He had been employed many years at the Armour and Company Packing Plant before his retirement. He came to the United States 55 years ago, locating in Clinton County, Iowa, where he lived 20 years before moving to Sioux City.
Surviving are his widow, Madga, and another son, Gunner of Gravette, Arkansas.

Funeral services for Jorgen G. Schanke, 73, of 208 South Paxton, father of two city fireman, who died Sunday, will be held at 2:30 Thursday from the Morningside Lutheran Church. Rev. George S. Matwick will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park. The body will remain at the Perasso Brothers Funeral Home until time for the services.

Pallbearers for Jorgen G. Schanke, 73, father of two Sioux City fireman, who died Sunday, were Roy Newman, Aaron Sager, Marvin Sager, Ernest Schuldt and George Rowe. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Morningside Lutheran Church. Rev. George S. Natwick officiated and burial was in Graceland Cemetery under the direction pf Perasso Brothers Funeral Home.
