L.L. Brown 1860 - 1942

L.L. Brown, 82-year-old former Sioux Cityan, died of a heart attack in his home at Hayward, California, Monday night after an illness of four months.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at Academy, South Dakota. Burial will be there.

Mr. Brown was born August 9, 1860 in Illinois. As a youth he enlisted in the army, serving during the “Indian War.” He was stationed for a time at Jefferson barracks in this territory.

After completing his term in the army, Mr. Brown purchased a farm near Academy, South Dakota, where he lived with his wife, whom he married in 1885, until shortly after 1920 when he moved to Sioux City. He remained here nearly 20 years before moving to California.

Surviving are the widow, Rhoda of Hayward; three sons, Lawrence of San Francisco, Don of Hayward and Frank C. of Sioux City; four daughters, Mrs. Harry Burlingaine of Berkeley, California, Mrs. Leonard Paulson of Platte, South Dakota, Mrs. Bessie Duba of Academy and Mrs. Pearl Wood of Hayfork, California and 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
