Miles J. Leigh, 77, of Sioux City died Friday, December 31, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin M. Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Leigh was born July 6, 1922, in Fairbury, Nebraska, the son of Benjamin and Viola (Purdy) Leigh. He married Jean V. “Princess” Slate on February 12, 1944 in Sioux City.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was on the battleship USS Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He served six years on active duty in the South Pacific Theater and was in the Naval Reserves for eight years.

He moved to Sioux City in 1944.

He was employed as a baker for Continental Baking Co. for 25, retiring in 1972.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Dakota City American Legion Post 376, VFW Post 1973, DAV and Bakers Union, Local 433. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and oil painting.

Survivors include his wife; four sons and their wives, Miles and Ann of Sibley, Iowa, Terry and Bonnie of Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Darrell and Debbie and Larry and Debbie all of Sioux City, two daughters, Linda and her husband, William Vogt and Debra and her husband, Randall Vogt, all of Sioux City, 18 grandchildren and 12 great=grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Steven, one sister, Doris, one brother, Leonard Leigh, and a half-brother, Richard Humphrey.

Pallbearers will be Patrick, Michael, Christopher and Corey Vogt and Greg and Larry Leigh Jr.
