CUSHING, Iowa -- Alfred Groth, 80, of Cushing passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, in Cushing.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Anderson-Perasso Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Sheryl Ashley officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Navy. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Alfred was born Oct. 22, 1926, near Cushing, to Henry and Olga (Hargens) Groth. He was raised in Cushing. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He married Dorothy Sevey on April 10, 1945. He ran a service station in Cushing for 50 years. He also proudly drove a school bus for 52 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 624 for 60 years.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Vicki Lynn Von Aswege; a granddaughter and her husband, Debbie and Matthew; a grandson, Brian; a great-grandson, Joshua; two great-granddaughters, Shawna and Shayla; a brother, Laverne Groth; and several nieces and nephews.
