SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- William "Bill" Godsey, 88, of Sioux Center died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Revs. Roger Voskuil and Paul Den Harder officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Friday in Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, where condolences may be sent online to www.MFHonline.com.

William Donald Godsey was born June 19, 1918, in North Bend, Neb., the son of Bernard and Bertha (Fisher) Godsey. He graduated from Sloan High School in 1937. He was a graduate of Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1947. He proudly served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army with the 20th Armored Division from September 1941 through December 1945.

In August 1945, he married Marilyn Lord in Sloan, Iowa. They lived in Peterson, Iowa, where he was a vocational agriculture teacher. A daughter, Linda, was born in 1947. They moved to Sloan to farm. Marilyn died in October 1949.

On Oct. 24, 1952, he married Mary Leamer. They had three children, Ann, Char and Robert. The family moved to Sioux Center in 1957. He taught for the Sioux Center School District. He was a veteran agriculture instructor and later became the vocational agriculture teacher and the Future Farmer's of America advisor for 30 years.

He enjoyed golfing with his friends and had a passion for gardening. He loved caring for his sheep, geese and dog, Sam "Poocha". He was a member of the Iowa State University Alumni Association, the American Legion and First Reformed Church.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Mary; four children and their spouses, Linda and Jack Frisbie of Maryville, Mo., Ann and Paul Den Herder of Haslett, Mich., Char and Michael Baltes of Ankeny, Iowa, and Robert Godsey of Bloomington, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Frisbie, Susan Frisbie, Jackie Frisbie, Lindsey Frisbie, Jesse Den Herder and his wife, Tara, Bethany (Den Herder) and her husband, Shannon Scholten, Kristen (Den Herder) and her husband, Jeremy Mason, John Den Herder, Matt Baltes and his wife, Sharon, Michelle (Baltes) and her husband, Dave Breitwisch, Heather (Godsey) and her husband, Rodd Caldwell, Melissa (Godsey) and her husband, Clint Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Garett Smith and William Baltes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents, Bernard Godsey and Bertha Brady; and a brother, Robert Godsey.
