MOVILLE, Iowa -- Donald H. Gross, 86, of Lead, S.D., formerly of Moville, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at the Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. today, at the Lead-Deadwood Funeral Chapel in Lead. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date in Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Aldinger Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Spearfish, S.D. Condolences may be sent online to www.aldingerfuneralhome.com.

Donald was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Osborn, Mo., to Wallace and Madge (Morgan) Gross. He grew up in Cameron, Mo., where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, during the China offensive in Central Burma, India.

He married Maxine Pries on April 22, 1972, in Moville. They moved to Lead a little over a year ago.

He was a lifelong member of Moili Temple Shrine in St. Joseph, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Gross of Lead; two stepsons, Gary (Sharon) Van Norman of Lead and Mark (Lee) Cornils of San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Danny Van Norman; two brothers; a granddaughter; and a nephew.

A memorial has been established to the Golden Ridge in Lead.
