Jeanne B. Rizk, 79, of Sioux City died Friday, January 28, 2000 at Sunrise Manor Retirement Community, after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Douglas Klein officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mrs. Rizk was born January 2, 1921, in Burr Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Vaneta (Counsel) Beckner. She grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa, and graduated from Clear Lake High School. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Dietetics. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.

She married Joseph E. Risk on January 28, 1943, in Clear Lake. The couple lived in San Francisco and Schenectady, N.Y. They came to Sioux City in 1946, where they went into the family business, Inter State Oil Company, later known as Inter State Auto Supply.

She had also worked for Massachusetts General Hospital, planning all patient meals and for Stanford University Hospital.

She was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and the Confraternity, Birthright of Sioux City and past president of St. Joseph Auxiliary. She was also a founding member and past president of PEO Chapter L.D.

She was an avid bridge, player, golfer and reader.

Survivors include her husband of Sioux City, three sons; Robert C. of Santa Paula, California, Thomas J. and his wife, Janet of Carpinteria, California and Dr. William and his wife, Pam of Sioux City; three daughters; Susan Haggar of Omaha, Joanie and her husband, Patrick Kuehl of Sioux City and Julie Jennerjahn of Taos., N.M.; a sister and her husband, Becky and Frank “Rusty” Flores of Ida Grove, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 21 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jane Ellen; her late father, her mother and her step-father, Les Schwietert.

Pallbearers will be Patrick David Kuehl Jr., Nick, Michael, Christopher and Daniel Kuehl, Dan and Jamie Hagger and Joe and Janette Rizk.

Memorials may be directed to Sunrise Manor Retirement Community, Hospice of Siouxland, Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Association.
