A Sioux City Paper Thinks Bishop
Linehan Will Be Head at
New Iowa See
~
Sioux City Journal: There seems to be little question that Bishop Lenihan, of Cheyenne, will be Sioux City’s First Catholic bishop, and that he will be sent here in a short time. He is a cousin of Rev. B. C. Lenihan, of Boone, who formerly was pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sioux City. Bishop Lenihan was born May 13, 1845, at Bardstown, Ky., and was educated at Bardstown, Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Milwaukee. He was ordained to the priesthood November 16, 1867, and from 1868 to 1870 was pastor at Decorah, Iowa. He later served as pastor to Corpus Christi Church at Fort Dodge. On February 24, 1897, he was consecrated bishop and sent to Cheyenne, Wyo. The climate of that country has not agreed with him, and he has been anxious for a change of location.
