Elmer Cecil and Dorothy (Nelson) King

Elmer Cecil King was born September 26, 1919 in rural Woodbury County, coming to Correctionville in 1922 with his parents, Jay Cecil “Curly” and Freda (Harm) King.

After graduation from high school in 1937, Elmer worked for the C.N. W. Railway Company. From 1940 to 1962 he was in the military service (Army, Army Air Force and Air Force.) His military travels took him to all states except Wisconsin and Hawaii, to Alaska, both as a territory and a state and two tours in Europe, which included several countries there.

Dorothy Nelson and Elmer were married in Shreveport, Louisiana in March 1950. Their son, James Lee, was born in Geneva, New York, in September 1951 and now lives in Idaho. Their daughter, Laura Elizabeth, was born at Fort Carson, Colorado in November 1954 and now lives in Colorado. Janice Kay and Vicki Jean were both born at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska in September 1956 and October 1957, respectively. Janice is now in Arizona and Vicki is in Colorado.

After military retirement Elmer worked four years for Systems Development Corporation on the NORAD System in Cheyenne Mountain Complex. He later worked in a civilian capacity at the Air Force Academy on computer systems until his current retirement.

While in the service and afterward, Elmer was a 4-H leader for 26 years, specializing in dog training. He served ten years on the Douglas County, Colorado, Fair Board, several years as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and also served on the board of trustees and as treasurer of the Little Log Church in Palmer Lake, Colorado.

Dorothy is busy year round preparing county fair entries in knitting, crocheting, canned food, hay, grasses, small grain, noxious and obnoxious weeds, flowers, vegetables, etc.

As retired folks, Dorothy and I camp and fish, mostly in Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, when not busy at our Douglas County, Colorado home.
