Killed by the Cars.

Fred Groff, aged 18 years, a son of Mrs. Julia Groff of this city, was accidentally killed at Lawler last evening at 12 o’clock, while attending to his duties as brakeman. News to this effect was conveyed to his mother early this morning by telegraph. Particulars concerning the accident have not yet been learned here. Fred had been in the service of the railroad for about a year, and was considered one of their best men. The whole community was shocked this morning to hear of his sudden demise.

Miss Lottie Broihier came from Waterloo Friday to attend the funeral of her nephew, Fred Groff.

Last Thursday, people were shocked upon hearing that Freddie Groff had been killed. The terrible accident occurred at Lawler while he was braking on the train. The funeral services occurred Saturday morning at nine a. m., at the St. Francis Catholic church, Rev. Thiltgen officiating. People from out of town who were in attendance were E. H. Water and two daughters, Virgie and Viola of Austin, Mrs. Nan Huinker and sister Genevieve Broihier, of Calmar, Mr. Lover and Mrs. and Mrs. John Liebold of Mason City, and Mrs. And Mrs. Frank Groff of Remsen.
