Margaret Arneson age 92 of Decorah, IA passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.

A private family service will be held at a later date with burial in the Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery.

Cards and memorials may be sent to the family at: 701 Rural Ave, Decorah, IA 52101, WMC Hospice or to the Big Canoe Cemetery Fund.

The family would like to thank Aase Haugen Senior Services and Winneshiek Medical Center Hospice for their care and support.

Margaret Elaine (Hovden) Arneson was born on August 10, 1929, the daughter of Anton and Alma (Ramstad) Hovden in Madison Township. She was baptized and confirmed at the Madison Lutheran Church by Pastor M.B. Quill. She was educated in rural Winneshiek County and Decorah Schools. Margaret was selected by the American Legion to go to Girls State in 1947. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1948. After graduation, she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Decorah. On July 1, 1951, she was united in marriage to Stanley Arneson at the Madison Church. To this union four daughters were born: Martha, Mary, Cindy and Deb. Stanley and Margaret farmed in Allamakee Township for four years and Pleasant Township for thirty-five years. They retired from farming and moved to Decorah in 1990. Margaret worked at John Cline in food service for four years. They moved to Oneota Village Assisted Living in 2016 and in January of 2022 she became a resident of Aase Haugen Senior Services. She was a member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church, WELCA, Hannah Circle and V.F.W. Auxiliary Life Membership. Margaret enjoyed watching sports, especially Iowa Hawkeyes Football, Chicago Cubs Baseball and Tom Brady.

Margaret is survived by her daughters: Mary Tekippe, Decorah, IA; Cindy (Tom) Rima, Decorah, IA and Deb (Jay) Schiltz, Minneapolis, MN. Grandchildren: Jason (Cori) Graves, Telluride, CO; Melinda (Todd Hamilton) Graves, Redding, CA; Sarah (Derek Skolnik) Tekippe, Glenview, IL; Tina (John Kanja) Tekippe, Kansas City, MO; Michelle Rima, West Des Moines, IA; Stephanie Rima, Decorah, IA; Ben Schiltz, Eva Schiltz and Berit Schiltz all of Minneapolis, MN. Great grandchildren: Nyle Lienhard, Lily Graves, Alex Graves, Makayla Sales, Colin Skolnik and Simone Skolnik. Sister-in-law: Bernice Arneson.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Stanley. Daughter: Martha Graves. Parents: Anton and Alma (Ramstad) Hovden. Father and mother-in-law: Martin and Nora (Grindeland) Arneson. Brothers and sisters: Orville Hovden, Cora (Harold) Grice, Joe (Dorothy) Hovden, Alice (Jack) Callison, Irene (Earl) Albertson, Oscar Hovden and Ethel (Roland “Bud”) Drape. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Kathryn (Jerome) Kroshus, Paul Arneson and Ralph (Shirley) Arneson.
