THE SILENT REAPER.
JOHN BILLOW.
After a short but severe illness, John Billow, one of the well known old residence of Decorah, passed away last Thursday, in his seventy-sixth year. Mr. Billow was born June 4, 1832, in Darmstadt, Germany. His residence in Decorah dates from 1867. Here in 1871 he was married to Mrs. Katherine Mahr, who, with three children—John of Red Wing, Jos. and Miss Josephine of Decorah—survive. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Miss Mary Billow and Mrs. W. E. Downie of Dayton, Ohio. The funeral service was held Sunday morning at St. Benedict’s church, Rev. J. Hawe officiating, with interment in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Billow was a carpenter by trade, quiet, industrious, and a good citizen.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in St. Benedict Cemetery shows the name spelled Billo.
