THE SILENT REAPER.
OLAF J. BRANDT
Death entered the ranks of the students at Luther College on Sunday morning last and claimed for his own Olat J Brandt, a member of the Junior class. It is the first death to occur during a school year in a dozen years, and one of only a possible half dozen in the forty-six years of college history. Deceased was the older son of Rev. and Mrs. Ralph G. Brandt, of McFarland, Wis., a grandson of Rev. N. Brandt, one of the founders of the Synod, and ntphew{sic} of Mds. L. S. Reque and G. Bothne of Decorah. Although ill for some time previous, his condition did not become serious until Saturday, the 8th, when pneumonia developed and his parents were sent for. In spite of every care the disease could not be shaken off and he succumbed after a week of suffering.
Funeral was held Monday morning at the college chapel. Where Prof. C. K. Preus delivered a brief but touching address, and the remains were then taken to the First Lutheran church where Prof. Laur Larson delivered the funeral sermon. The remains were escorted from the college to the church, and to the Milwaukee depot by the faculty bank and entire student body of the college, classmates of the deceased acting as pall bearers. Burial took place at McFarland, Wis., the family home.
To the parents of Mr. Brandt the sympathy of a host of friends both here and elsewhere goes out in this affliction. The deceased was a young man who gave promise of being a worthy son, and his death just as he was about to enter manhood’s estate is a sore trial to bear.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born May 19, 1887 and died Feb. 16, 1908. He is buried in the Lower McFarland Cemetery in Wisconsin.
