The family is very thankful for the kind care from the staff of Winneshiek Medical Center. Memorials may be sent to Big Canoe Church or Winneshiek Medical Center, 901 Montgomery St. Decorah, IA, 52101, in memory of Chuck.

Charles Allyn Shuros was born on December 21, 1941, the son of Arthur and Inez (Bersgaard) Shuros in Spring Grove, MN. He attended country school at the Highlandville School and graduated from Decorah High school. Chuck enlisted with the United States Army in October of 1961. He was stationed in France where he served as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Chuck returned home to help on the family farm north of Decorah. He married Judy Borcherding on June 21, 1969, at St. John’ s Lutheran Church in Waukon, IA. They just celebrated 53 years of marriage. Together, Chuck and Judy had three children: Jennifer, Teresa and Allan. He spent the remainder of his life as a farmer near Highlandville, IA. He and Judy raised crops, beef cattle, hogs, sheep and goats as well as other farm critters.

Chuck will be remembered for his kindness, his open-mind and acceptance of others. Chuck was a life-time member of the Big Canoe Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He taught Sunday school, served on the church council, and many years on the cemetery committee. He was very committed to caring for the land, the water and wooded areas of their farm that has been in the family for many years. He cared for the larger community as a Highlandville First Responder. He served as a board member for Norwegian Mutual Insurance for twenty-seven years. Chuck was a member of the Mabel VFW Post #299 and a member of the Historical Society in Mabel, MN. One of his favorite events of the year was the Hesper-Mabel Steam Engine days where he displayed his 2-Cylinder John Deere tractors. He and his family always looked forward to driving a tractor in the parade. He spent a lot of time in his shop restoring tractors and building wood furniture. Each of his children, grandchildren, and Judy received many beautifully crafted pieces of furniture. You’ll see a couple special pieces at Big Canoe Church.

Chuck is survived by his wife Judy. Children: Jennifer (Marc) Mikkelson, Decorah, IA; Teresa Laham, Manitowoc, WI; Allan (Miriam) Shuros, St. Paul, MN.
