There is scarcely a week but it seems to be my duty to record the death of some former or present resident of Burr Oak. This week it is Mrs. Emma Calkin-Hunt. She was born near Burr Oak 36 years ago in August last, and the first 20 years of her life were spent at the farm home near town, and she will be lovingly remembered by a large circle of former associates, among whom her sweet disposition and ladylike manners won her a high place. The family moved from here to Fayette about 16 years ago, where she married Mr. Hunt and was a resident of that city for a few years, then went to Washington. Their last home was at Hoquiam, Chehalis county. On Thursday, Nov. 21st, Mrs. Hunt was taken sick with quinsy, and for good care she was taken to the hospital, but there was nothing alarming about the disease. On Friday the doctors lanced her through three times, and on Saturday morning diphtheria had developed, and that evening at 6:30 she died. She left one child, little Eunice. The father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Calkin, with the other members of the family, removed from Fayette and settled in Montague near the east shore of Lake Michigan, where they both died several years ago.
