The unwelcome news came to Burr Oak the first of the week that Charity Bent, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. P. Bent of Chicago, was dangerously sick of that dread disease, typhoid fever, and Friday morning her friends were advised of her death which occurred Thursday night. Everything that medical skill and competent nurses could do couldn’t save her, and one lamentable thing was that the father and mother were on a business trip to Europe, but were cabled for as soon as the daughter was taken sick. Charity was twenty-one years of age, and was quite well known in Burr Oak, as she has spent a part of nearly every summer here. She was a young lady of very sweet disposition, and had endeared herself to her many friends. The sympathy of all Burr Oak goes out to George and Clara in this their great bereavement. The first in their family of seven children, John Wingate took the train Friday evening for Chicago to be present at the funeral, which took place on Sunday.

Died in Chicago.
Word came from Chicago last Friday of the death from typhoid fever of Miss Charity Bent, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. P. Bent, both of whom in the early days were residents of Burr Oak. Miss Bent was a granddaughter of the late Henry Wingate, in every way a charming girl whose death will be mourned outside as well as within the family circle. Her parents had just landed in Germany for a summer’s tour of Europe when they were greeted with news of their daughter’s illness and hastened home. John Wingate, uncle of Mrs. Bent, went to Chicago Friday to attend the funeral. Of Miss Bent’s death the Record Herald of Saturday said:—
Charity Mary Bent, 21 years old, who was taken ill with typhoid fever two weeks ago at Holland. Mich., where she had gone to seek rest, died at her home in Chicago Thursday. She was a daughter of George P. Bent, the piano manufacturer. She was a graduate of the South Side University Academy and the National Park Seminary of Washington, D. C. She was a talented singer, but used her voice only in charitable and temperance work. She also was deeply interested in settlement work. When she was taken ill her father and mother were in Europe and retured home only a few hours before her death. The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon from the home, 5139 Washington avenue. The interment will be in Mount Hope.
