Betty Rae Ransom, 70, of Decorah, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, in her home. A memorial service is Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1 p.m., at the UCC Church in Decorah.

Betty was born July 10, 1948, to Carroll and Marylou Ransom in Waterloo. After graduating from UNI in Cedar Falls, Betty taught school in Clinton. She then moved to Washington DC and was employed for many years at the National Council on Aging and the Washington DC National Alzheimer’s Association.
After moving back to Iowa, Betty was employed by the Northland Agency on Aging in Decorah. She retired in 2016.

She enjoyed singing in Northern Lights and her church choir. Betty was an avid reader and she also enjoyed shopping, traveling, theater, concerts, movies and most of all spending time with friends and family.

Betty will be remembered for her zest for life, her contagious laughter and her caring personality.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Gary Schultz; her nephews, Jesse Schultz (wife Ursula) and Jeremy Schultz; her grandnieces, Amanda and Rachel Schultz; and her grandnephew, Mason Schultz; several cousins; and many friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Susan Ransom.

Betty was loved by her family and friends and will be truly missed.
Memorials can be given to the UCC Church in Decorah or the charity of your choice.
