On Saturday, June 19th at 10 o’clock at the St. Wenceslaus church occurred the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Novak, mass being said by Rev. Broz. They were accompanied to the altar by Inez Barnes and Paul Mikesh. 50 years ago, Feb. 20th Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Novak were united in marriage at Festina by a German priest. Over 60 years ago they emigrated with their parents from Europe to Iowa and settled near Spillville when this part of the country was mostly a wilderness. They might be called pioneers. When they were first married they lived on a farm 2 miles east of Spillville about 6 years. Later they moved west of Spillville on a farm, living there until the last ten years they lived here at Spillville. All their children were present at the reception and their names are: Mrs. Albert Mikesh, Mrs. Chas. Tupy, Mrs. Mike Barnes, Mrs. Jos. Barnes, Mrs. Jos. Sobolik, Edward and Henry. Besides about 25 other families were present. Many presents were given to them for remembrance. Mrs. J. Stranky and Mrs. J. Lukash, of Dubuque also attended the wedding.—Spillville Cor. Calmar Courier.
