Forest City - Larry W. Lovick, 71, of Forest City died Tuesday (July 8, 2008) at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 12, at Fertile Lutheran Church with David Halverson, lay minister, officiating. Inurnment will be at Brush Point Cemetery near Fertile.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 11, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Larry W. Lovick Memorial Fund to be used at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, Fertile Lutheran Church or the Parkinson Research Foundation.

Larry Wayne Lovick, the youngest of 12 children of H.O. and Ida (Hanson) Lovick, was born Feb. 1, 1937, on a farm near Joice. He graduated from Fertile High School in 1954 and joined the U.S. Marines in 1955, serving his country in Okinawa, Japan. After his military service, he returned to the Fertile area where he farmed with his dad and brothers.

On March 26, 1966, he married Diane Bacon in Ventura. To this union three children were born, Darren, Shaun and Kelli. They made their home east of Forest City where they remained for 43 years.

Larry enjoyed fishing in Canada, going to farm auctions and hunting out West with his good friends, Norm and Jim. He also loved farming and collecting toy tractors. His favorite hobby was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Larry was a member of Fertile Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He also served on the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church Council.

He was very involved in community organizations such as the Hancock County Soil Conservation Board and the Forest City School Board.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diane, of Forest City; two sons, Darren (Janet) Lovick of Mission Hills, Kan. and Shaun (Julie) Lovick of Naperville, Ill.; his daughter, Kelli (Mason) Harms of Forest City; and his great love, his eight grandchildren, Nick, Max and Kate Lovick, Benjamin, Audrey and Joshua Lovick and Laura and Jack Harms. Larry is also survived by two brothers, James (Alvera) Lovick of Fertile and Leo (Marlys) Lovick of Ackley; five sisters, Murlette Hagen of Lake Mills, Alice Toresdahl of Clear Lake, Elaine (Bob) Ollenburg of Ventura, Pearl Hanna of Clear Lake and Doris (Frank) Bonnstetter of Chapin, S.C.; his mother-in-law, Anna Grace Bacon of Clear Lake; sister-in-law Juanita Lovick of Washington, Iowa, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ardie and Paul Lovick; two sisters, Amy Brakke and Irene Brakke; and his father-in-law, Vern Bacon.
