Death Caused by a Splinter.
Lake Mills, Iowa, July 14.—The 5- year-old son of George Nelson, a merchant of this place, died yesterday morning under distressing circumstances. Some time ago the boy, while running on a board walk, ran a large splinter into his foot, breaking off in such a manner that the splinter was concealed. For several day the nature of the hurt was not suspected, until inflammation commenced and an examination was made by a physician. The splinter was removed, but this did not give relief, as convulsions resulted, from which the child died.
