Zona Mae Marpe
May 10, 1932 - November 24, 2018

Zona Mae (Rovang) Marpe, age 86, of rural Northwood, died on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Zona was born on May 10, 1932, to Clifford Elmer and Alma Marie (Ecklund) Rovang. She attended and then graduated from Emmons High School in Emmons, Minnesota, before going on to earn a degree as a Registered Nurse.

On October 17, 1954, she married Roger Marpe at the Emmons Lutheran Church. They made their home south of Emmons where Roger farmed and Zona worked as the director of nursing at the Lake Mills Care Center from 1968 until she retired in 1977. In the meantime, Zona, also, found time to tend to their home and help raise their three boys: Scott, Todd, and Kary.

Zona enjoyed many hobbies including gardening (both flowers and vegetables), caring for her many fruit trees, watching birds, painting, rosemaling, and fishing. A faithful and dedicated member of the Emmons Lutheran Church, she volunteered in many capacities throughout the years. Moreover, forever proud of her boys, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she never let an opportunity to talk about them pass her by.

Survivors include her children: Scott (Diane Honsey) Marpe, of Emmons, Minnesota, Todd (Roxie) Marpe, of Northwood, Iowa, and Kary Marpe, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three grandchildren: Nicole (Brad) Edwards, of Hollandale, Minnesota, and Sara (Jourdan) Ingledue and Zach Marpe, all of Northwood, Iowa; and nine great grandchildren: Ryker, Harper, Xander, and Asher Edwards and Chase, Taylor, Landon, Laylah and Aleah Ingledue. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger, in 2016; and a sister, Eileen Helgeson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, Minnesota, with Pastor David E. Schafer officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, rural Emmons. Visitation is scheduled for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Lake Mills Care Center and Mayo Clinic Health Systems for the wonderful care and concern they accorded Zona during her stay.

Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, Iowa, 2018.
