September 10, 1930 - October 18, 2018

Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Higbee, 88, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A son of Rowland and Rennie (Frericks) Higbee, Gerald “Jerry was born on September 10, 1930, in Brown Valley, Minnesota. In time, he graduated from East High School in Rockford, Illinois. Then, on August 11, 1951, he married Shirley Heitland, at the Congregational Church Parsonage in Buffalo Center, Iowa, Rev. John Engels officiating.

Jerry was good at everything! An avid pool player, bowler, fisherman, and an excellent dancer, he loved playing golf as well. Indeed, he started caddying at age 12. Early in his career, he had worked in a dental lab in Rockford, Illinois. For the last 41 years, however, he worked as a Petro Salesman for Midland Coop, now known as Cenex.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; his daughter, Cheri (Daryl) Groe, all of Lake Mills, Iowa; his sons, Steve Higbee, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Thomas (Jeri) Higbee, of Mason City, Iowa; his daughter, Tammy (John) Housel, of Denton, Texas; three grandchildren: Jeff (Kelly) Groe, Jodi (Luke) Ouverson, Sean Higbee; and four great-grandchildren: Evan, Sam, and Ella Ouverson and Alex Groe; along with many other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim; and a sister, Lois (Chuck) Runyard.

Jerry’s family will greet friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 21, 2018, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, with a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM with Pastor Rob Lanphere officiating. A private family inurnment will take place in Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
