August 31, 1938 - September 30, 2018

Forest City - Jean L. Thompson, 80, of Forest City, died on Sunday, September, 30, 2018, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Jean L. Thompson was born on August 31, 1938, in Austin, Minnesota, to Vernon and Mildred (Stiele) Kamp. She worked at North Central, at the Good Samaritan Center as a CAN, at Baraly’s in Lake Mills, and at a few bars in the area as a bartender. At two different times, she worked at Winnebago Industries, retiring in 2001.

Jean liked doing puzzles to pass her free time. In addition, she loved getting together with her family and friends to talk about the old days. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Valerie Nielsen, of Forest City; her sisters: Joyce (Cliff) Carlson, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Margie Distad, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Rita (Arnold) Earl, of Austin, Minnesota, Karen (John) Torvick, of New Castle, California, Linda (Jerry) Meyer, and Deb (Lenard), of Owatonna, Minnesota; two brothers, Scott (Denise) Kamp, of Austin, Minnesota, and Tom Kamp; nine grandchildren: Breanna Bakkam; Jessica (Nick) Cunningham, of Leland, Iowa; Krystal Getchall, of Crystal Lake, Iowa; Michael Nielsen; of Forest City, Iowa; Jake and Kate Thompson, of Lake Mills, Iowa; and Hunter, Lexi, and Paige Thompson, all of Nora Springs, Iowa; and four great grandchildren: Aaiden and Kassidy Cunningham and Morgan and Thea Getchell; as well as by many, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her four sons: Daniel, James, Steven, and Duane Thompson; her parents, Vernon and Mildred Kamp; her brothers: Ramond, Rodger, David, Laveron, Keith, Ricky, and Doug Kamp; and her sisters, Joanne Lester and Patty Schaffer.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M., October 4, 2018, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa. A gathering of friends and family is scheduled for one hour before the services at the funeral home on Thursday. Burial of cremains will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed the Jean Thompson memorial fund in care of the family.
