Virginia Ann Olthoff
April 24, 1930 - February 27, 2018

Virginia Olthoff, age 87, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

Virginia was born on April 25th, 1930, to Harvey and Bertha Gilbert. She had seven siblings. After graduating from Buffalo Center High School, she considered a career in teaching. Instead, she met and married a handsome farmer named Harold Olthoff in 1953. To their union, three children were born, Patricia, Gary, and Daryl. Coincidently, Patricia was born on her mom's birthday.

Virginia worked side by side with Harold on a farm near Lakota. A good cook, she, also, kept a spotless house. She enjoyed bowling and joined the UMC Ruth Circle and the VFW Auxiliary.

After she and Harold retired, they moved to town in the mid-1990s. In the ensuing years, she would, often, ride her bicycle around town visiting with the neighbors. In 2002, however a fading memory required her to move into the Timely Mission where she resided until her death.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers: Dean, Harold, Glen, and Larry; and two sisters, Marjorie and Mary Lou. Her husband, Harold, died in 2012 and her son Gary in 1996.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Pat (Terry) Blank, of Shell Rock; her son, Daryl Olthoff, also of Shell Rock; her sister, Dolores Griffin, of Buffalo Center; and a granddaughter, Malinda, who is Gary's daughter.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018, at 11:00 AM at the Buffalo Center United Methodist Church. Friends and family are welcome to visit at 10:00 AM, one hour before the service. Fellowship will continue following the service with a light lunch. A private burial will take place at a later date at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Lakota.
