George Robert Berglund
April 07, 1929 - February 19, 2018

George Robert Berglund, age 88, of Lake Mills, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

George Berglund, a son of Oscar and Magda (Soderstrum) Berglund, was born on April 27, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating from Lane Technical High School, he served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps. On September 20, 1952, he married his loving wife, Betty Jane Rads, at Pilgrim Church in Chicago. They were, subsequently, blessed with sixty-five years together.

A member of the Masons and active as a Boy Scout Leader, he worked for Illinois Bell Telephone for forty-two years and played an active role in his community in Chicago and later in Plainfield, Illinois, as well. Eventually, as their health declined and they could no longer live on their own, so he and Betty moved to Iowa to be nearer to family. A loving father and grandfather, George lived his life in pursuit of his family’s happiness and success.

Those left to cherish his memory include his two children, Kenneth (Christine) Berglund, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Cindy (Bob) Sarver, of Leland, Iowa; his four grandchildren: Matthew (Becky) Berglund, of Albany, Oregon, Amanda Berglund, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Jessica (Kent) Poulsen, of Aurora, Illinois, and Bobby (Robyn) Sarver, of Dubuque, Iowa, and one great-granddaughter, Sabina Berglund, also of Albany, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Durr.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, 40029 210th Avenue, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. The family will welcome those attending thirty minutes before the service at the church. The family suggest that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
