Roger Chester Missman, 80, of Buffalo Center, died on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City.

Roger, a son of Robert Chester “Chet” and Bernice Ruth (Murr) Missman, was born on July 10, 1937, on the family farm south of Woden. He attended rural schools in Bingham Township and graduated from Woden High School in 1955. Roger served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On November 15, 1957, he married Janice Aukes at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. They made their home on a farm near Thompson where they raised their family. Roger retired from farming in 2002, and in 2011, he and Janice moved into Buffalo Center.

An active member of First Congregational Church, he served in many capacities including those of trustee, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. In addition, he served on the Thompson Community School Board as a member and past president, and he belonged to Gideon’s International. In his late 1940s, he obtained a private pilot license and enjoyed flying planes for many years.

Roger is survived by his wife, Jan, of Forest City; three children, Mike (Tammy) Missman, of Woden, Shelley (Don) Zeller, of Liberty, Missouri, and Todd (Marcie) Missman, of Thompson; four grandchildren: Josh (Erin) Missman and their two children, Ellie and Easton; Michaela and Adam Zeller; and Chelsea (Greg) Hanson, and their daughter, Indiana; and a brother, Charles (Sue) Missman, of Sheldon; as well as by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 29, 2018, at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. Tim Diehl officiating. Burial will follow at Olena Mound Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Woden and will resume one hour before services at the church.
