Margie J. Trees
December 8, 1922 - November 9, 2017

Margie J. Trees died on November 9, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society – Forest City.

Margie Jane Johnson was born on December 8, 1922, on the family farm west of Armstrong, Iowa, to Andrew and Mary (Elliot) Johnson. After graduating from Armstrong High School and Estherville Junior College, she worked at First Trust and Savings in Armstrong and married Marvin A. Trees on June 8, 1947. They lived in Nevada and Ringsted, Iowa, before moving to Forest City in 1954 where together they owned and operated the Home Lumber Company.

Margie volunteered with various organizations while living in Forest City and was, especially, proud of her involvement on boards for the Winnebago County Handicapped Services and the development of the Frandsen Residential Care Facility. She, also, liked delivering Meals on Wheels.

Margie enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, bowling, collecting antiques, crocheting, and reading. In addition, she liked watching sports of any kind, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Minnesota Vikings, and the New York Yankees.

After retiring, Margie and Marvin bought a home on Upper Hay Lake near Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, in 1987. There they spent fourteen wonderful years together on the lake before Marvin died in 2001. Active at Our Saviors Church in Pequot Lakes, she, also, enjoyed volunteering at the community library there. She returned to Forest City in 2007.

Margie is survived by her five children: Mark (Roxanne Tuomi), of East Gull Lake, Minnesota, Marion (Rhonda), of Mankato, Minnesota, Marty (Lona), of Forest City, Mary Kingland (Marvin), of Hanlontown, and Marshall (Mary), of Plymouth, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three siblings: Chris Johnson, Ermal Kirkwood and Lloyd Johnson.

The family would like to thank the Good Samaritan Society for the many years of good care their mother and grandmother received there and to Hospice of North Iowa for the additional care they helped provide at Good Samaritan the last few weeks.

A private family service will be held at a future date with inurnment at Madison Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Cataldo Schott Funeral Home, Forest City, Iowa, 2017.
