Roger H. Hill
August 11, 1933 - July 16, 2017,

Roger Henry Hill, 83, of rural Leland, was called to his heavenly home with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Hospice of North Iowa, Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Mason City, with loving family at his side.

A Celebration of Life service with family and friends will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa, with Rev. Wayne Halverson of the Forest Lutheran church officiating. Private family committal of cremains will follow at West Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Leland, at a later time.

Roger was born to Jester S. and Viola D. (Dakken) Hill in Neils Spur (rural Leland, Iowa) on August 11, 1933. Baptized and confirmed at the West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Leland, he attended country school and then Forest City High School, graduating in 1951. On June 7, 1953, he married Dorothy L. Anderson. Three children, Larry, Debra, and Randy, were born to their union.

The proud owner of the family Century Farm, Roger farmed for sixty-four years in rural Leland, worked at the RTA Harrison Telephone Company, Leland Manufacturing, and Winnebago Industries. An AAL Lamplighter and an Ambassador at Mercy Hospital, he, also, served on the boards at his church, the Winnebago County Drainage District, and the Winnebago County Planning and Zoning Commission, as well as in various other volunteer capacities.

Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and his cat, “Soda”, watching RFD-TV, reading, traveling, listening to “old time” country music, dancing, attending his monthly classmates breakfast, and telling a good joke or story. Most of all, however, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Indeed, he will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Roger is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Dorothy Hill, of rural Leland, his son, Dr. Larry D. (Dr. Rebecca) Hill, of Thompson; his daughter, Debra Buffington, of Forest City; six grandchildren: Bradley (Stephanie) and Brian (Tora) Buffington; Carrie (Alex) Carris; Dr. Christopher Hill; Jennifer (Jason) Sheehan; and Stephanie (Juan) Bernal; sixteen great-grandchildren: Laura, Hannah, Jacob, Alyssa, Caleb, Carson, Connor, Cole, Samantha, Tyler, Natalie, Casey, Benjamin, Gabriel, Carter, and Elijah; a new addition baby boy, Carris, due in August; his brother, Dennis (RoseAnn) Hill, and his family; his sisters-in-law, Arlene (Bernard) Flugum, and her family; and Kay Anderson, and her family; his niece, ReNae (Hill) Kern, and her family; his nephews, Kevin Hill, and his family, Randy J. Hill, and Mark Haugen, and his family.

Hill; his parents; Jester and Viola Hill; his in-laws, Gilmer and Annette Anderson; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerald and Mavis Hill; his sister-in-law, Gloria Haugen; and his brother-in-law, Gordon Anderson, Sr., as well as by his grandparents; uncles; aunts; nieces, Diane Steele and Vicki Hill; and many cousins.
