Selmer Mickelson, 76, longtime Duncombe area farmer, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe with Rev. David Deckard officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Lutheran Cemetery, south of Duncombe. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-9 p.m. and Friday after 11 a.m. at the church.

Selmer Harold Mickelson, son of Clifford and Serena Anderson Mickelson, was born Sept. 14, 1923 at Duncombe. He attended Duncombe Public School, graduating in 1940. He started farming with his father. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army-Calvary at Fort Riley, KS. On February 22, 1947 he married Norma Alberta Taylor at Duncombe. He farmed north of Duncombe with three of his brothers. He retired in 1988. Norma Mickelson died June 1, 1998.

Survivors are his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Helen Mickelson of Austin, MN., daughters and sons-in-law, Marlys and David Grant of Boone, Marilyn and Robert Webster of Atlanta, GA., Sherry and James Pede and Karen Mickelson, all of Des Moines; 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, his mother, Serena Mickelson, Duncombe; brothers Donald, Robert and Leonard Mickelson, all of Duncombe, Paul Mickelson, Lehigh and Richard Mickelson, Cedar Rapids; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father.

He was a member of Washington Lutheran Church. Memorials may be directed to the Washington Lutheran Cemetery Association.
