CYRUS C. CARPENTER, who was Governor of Iowa from 1874 to 1878, died at his home in Fort Dodge last Sunday night, after a brief Illness of two weeks, resulting from a kidney difficulty of several years’ standing. He had lived in Fort Dodge from 1854. Prior to being elected Governor, he had been Register of the State Land Office; was a legislator as early as 1857; and served as a staff officer during the war under Rosencranz, Dodge and Logan. After the governorship he was Comptroller of the Currency under Grant, and served two terms in congress as representative from the Northwestern Iowa district. He was not a great man, but his record was clean, efficient and honorable.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Nov. 29, 1829 and died May 29, 1898. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery.
