John Rustebakke Nubson was born September 29, 1847 at Valdres, Oppland, Norway to Nuub Amundsen Rustebakke and Olaug Christoffersdatter Goplerud, the fifth of their eight children.

He was baptized on October 10, 1847 at Norway.

John emigrated 1861 to Dane, Wisconsin with his parents and siblings and the family moved west to Mitchell County, Iowa in 1869.

Found in the 1870 census living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa living with his brother: Amand Nunbson (Amund Nubson) 31, Carie Nunbson 33, Nicoline Nunbson 3, Nicole Nunbson 1, Jno Nunbson 23.

John married Ingeborg Haraldsdatter Grov about 1870 at Mitchell County, Iowa.

The couple had 3 children:
Olene Mathilde Nubson Peterson (1871 - 1914);

Henry Nicolai Nubson (b 1873 - ); and

Martha Nubson (1874 - 1877).

John R Nubson died 1874 at Webster, Iowa and was buried at Vinge Lutheran Cemetery, Callender, Webster, Iowa.
