Workman Killed in
Quarry at Logan

LOGAN (UPI)- Earl Piearson, 39, Stratford, was killed late Friday when he was struck by a four-inch jagged rock as he touched off a dynamite blast in a rock quarry here.

Piearson set off the explosion by pushing a plunger from the cab of a pickup truck in a routine operation. Although he was some 300 feet from the blast scene, considered a safe distance, a piece of rock hurtled through the roof of the truck and struck him in the back.
