"Ben H. Swegle Dies at 67 - Corydon Postmaster, Brother of County Supervisor Well Known Here - Ben H. Swegle, Corydon postmaster and brother of Clarke County Supervisor Jay Swegle, died of a heart condition on October 9 at the Wayne county hospital. He had been a patient since Sept. 24, and was 65 years of age. A native of Allerton, he lived for many years in the Grand River community of Decatur county before moving to Seymour where he was a livestock buyer. In January 1933, he and Mrs Swegle moved to Corydon where he first entered public office as deputy county auditor. He was later elected county treasurer and about 10 years ago was named to the position of postmaster. Mr. Swegle was a member of the Masonic lodge, a veteran of World War I, and a trustee of the Corydon Methodist church. Surviving are his widow, Irene; one daughter, Mrs. Arnold Evans of Emerson; two sons, Robert of Corydon and Jack, a student at Iowa State University; his brother, Jay of Osceola; two half-sisters, Nellie McClain of Corydon and May Criley of Eddyville, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Oct. 11 in the Corydon Methodist church with Rev. Mark Weston officiating. Burial was in the Corydon cemetery."
