Cornelius Niday, section 11, Benton Township, was born in Lawrence County, Ohio, March 10, 1834, a son of John Niday, a native of Virginia, and an early settler of Lawrence County. He accompanied his parents to Mahaska County, Iowa , in 1845, and to Wayne county in 1849. He has always followed agricultural pursuits and now owns a good farm of 20 acres. He was married in January, 1856, to Mary, daughter of Jonathan Emrett. They have had eight children, seven of whom are living—Sidney F., Rosetta E., Mary C., Sarah D., Nora M., Minnie M. and Everett E. Mr. Niday enlisted in the war of the Rebellion in the Thirty-fourth Iowa Infantry and served three years, participating in the battles of Vicksburg, Arkansas Post, Fort Morgan, Fort Gaines, Fort Blakely, and all the engagements of the Red River expedition.
