Funeral Services Held For T. E. Maxwell
Crawfordsville Man Succumbs At His Home Wednesday, December 7th

T. E. Maxwell, 74, died about 9 o’clock p. m. December 7 at his home in Crawfordsville, following an illness with intense suffering for the past three weeks. He had been in poor health for many years and three weeks ago he suffered a heart attack.

Thomas Edwin Maxwell was born February 18, 1864, the son of James and Esther Cunningham Maxwell, on the Maxwell farm about one mile north of Crawfordsville. He had spent his entire life in this community. In October 1890, he bought out the H. Manners interest in the Manners brother's dry goods and grocery store here. In June 1893, he purchased the J. J. Manners interest and Mr. Maxwell continued with the business until 1911 when he sold out. He repurchased the business in 1915 and continued for several years. January 1, 1890, he was appointed postmaster here and served until 1914. He was married, to Florence Johnson on April 22, 1908, at Quincy, Illinois, and they were the parents of two sons, Maurice, who is employed at Fletcher and Crooks oil station, and Ted, a student at the University of Missouri at Columbia Missouri.

Early in life, he united with the United Presbyterian church here and ever since has been a faithful member. In 1936 he was elected a member of the session.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, and one sister, Mr., M. C. DeLong of Washington.

The parents, two brothers, and one sister are deceased.

Funeral services were held in the United Presbyterian church with the pastor. Rev. N. G. Webster, in charge. A quartet composed of Lorene Taylor, Marian Waters, John White, and Bruce Hanna, accompanied by Mrs. Webster, sang “The Lord Is My Shepherd." Casket bearers were J. C. Cannon, Frank Gault, Lee Hanna, W. P. Davidson, E. L. Clark, and E. C. Monson. Interment was in the Crawfordsville cemetery
