JOHN V. MOSS

John V. "Big John" Moss, 74, of Iowa City, died Friday, October 9, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City following a short illness. Funeral services for John will be at 7:00 P.M. Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside. Mike Ryan will officiate the services. Visitation for John will be held on Monday, October 12, from 4:30-7:00 P.M. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside. John Vernon Moss was born on June 10, 1935 in Washington, Iowa the son of Vernon and Iva (Hartzell) Moss. John worked as a heavy construction supervisor for Barkers in Iowa City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. John was a past commander of the Riverside V.F.W. "Big John" was a well known stock car driver in the Midwest during the 60s and 70s. John will be deeply missed by his grandson, Rob Moss of Iowa City; three daughters: Jane Moss of Iowa City, Linda Moss of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Diana Moss of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren: Megan, Carl, Brianna, Brenton, Ebony, and Josh; three sisters, Bette Funk (Rod Madden) of Tiffin, Marilyn Moss of Riverside, and Susan Branch of Riverside; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Jerry Moss.
