Thomas Caraway Dies at Home
Thomas J. Caraway, 78, Indianola resident for the past half century, died Monday morning at his residence, 206 E. Euclid Ave. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity United Presbyterian church Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Indianola Cemetery. Mr. Caraway is survived by his wife, Maude, and six children: Mrs. Annabelle Sandy, Milo; Leroy Caraway, Indianola; Mrs. Forest Ashbaugh, Canada; W. Leslie Caraway, Des Moines; Mrs. Clare Oxenreider, Crete, Neb.; and Mrs. Tom Farley, Winona, Minn. Six step-children also survive. They are: Cloyd Vance, Leeds, N. D.; Garth Vance, John Vance, Mrs. Waive Christiansen and Mrs. Mable Christiansen, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Frances Stitt, Pattonsburg, Mo. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Belle Everly, Richmond, Calif.

Thomas J. Caraway
Thomas J. Caraway, son of Eliza Ann and William Owen Caraway, was born near Pattonsburg, Mo., in 1881 and died in Indianola Feb 8, 1960, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 23 days. His early life was spent near Pattonsburg. He was married to Ada Puckett of McFall, Missouri on Feb. 22, 1903. They moved to Nebraska and joined the United Presbyterian church there, then moved to Iowa in 1910 and transferred their membership to the United Presbyterian church here where he lived a full and faithful life. To this union were born seven children, Annabelle Sandy of Milo, Leroy Caraway of Indianola, Opal Ashbaugh of Canada, Della Farley of Minnesota, Leslie Caraway of Des Moines, Esta Oxenreider of Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1949 and one son, James, in 1938. Later he was married to Maude Vance of McFall, Mo., Oct. 9, 1951, and there are six step children, Cloyd Vance of North Dakota, Garth and John Vance, Mable and Waive Christianson of Kansas City, Mo., Frances Stitt of Pattonsburg, Mo. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Belle Everly of California, 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren besides a host of relatives and friends.
