Frank A. Shepherd
(June 15, 1840 – July 16, 1871)

Indianola Journal, Indianola, IA, Thurs., July 20, 1871, p.3
DIED – In this city, July 16, 1871, of Tetanus, or lock-jaw – stiffening of the muscles, caused by a cut on the foot, Frank A. Shepherd, aged 31 years, 1 month and 1 day. Mr. Shepherd was born in Wilmington, Clinton County, Ohio – came to Iowa 17 years ago. In youth was subject to white-swelling. Came near dying in the army. He leaves a wife and two children, a father and mother, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. No man was more highly respected than he wherever known. His death is universally mourned in this community. Frank has gone to his long home. His suffering during his sickness was merely “A tempestuous state of human life; was merely as the workings of the sea before a calm that rocks itself to rest.” His weeping friends – his old grandmother (who soon must join him), father, mother, sisters, brothers, wife and children – all, on the revealment of God’s word, can imbed it in their souls, and wrap them up in the warm embrace of its consolations; Frank shall rise from the tomb.
