Obituary
Nathan Tyson Cox was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Jan 29th, 1824, died in Warren County, Iowa, April 29th, 1888, aged 64 years, and 3 months. Mr. Cox left his native state in early life and went to Indiana where he was married to Amanda Showver in 1817. With her he came to Iowa in 1859, and settled in the same year in Warren County. He was thus among the oldest residents of this county, having lived here thirty-nine years. The purity and uprightness of his life secured for him the confidence and esteem of all who knew him. He was known as a sincere, honest man. He united with the Baptist church of Indianola about 20 years ago, and had been ever since a valued member. His Christian life was quiet, undemonstrative, but potent for good, as his neighbors and his children can testify. His walk through the world was a well ordered one, and his passing out was in the line with such a life. Having lived the life of the righteous, he died the death of the righteous. The end, though it came suddenly (he was sick of inflammation of the stomach less than twenty-four hours) was peaceful, without terror. The funeral conducted by his pastor, was held at the home seven miles southeast of town. Prof. Bears, an old friend and neighbor, who was present when he died, spoke appreciatingly of his character and life. The family have the sympathies of all our citizens who have known Mr. Cox so long and so well.
